Groups @ The Counseling Center

 
The Counseling Center is currently looking for participants for the following groups scheduled to start up Winter 2009: 

Ten Days of Self‑Esteem Group: This innovative program, developed by David Burns, M.D., can help you develop greater self‑esteem, productivity, and joy in daily living. In ten sessions, you will receive systematic training in techniques that can help you change the way you think, feel, and behave. This group involves one pre‑group meeting with a group facilitator and 10 sessions.

Meditation and Relaxation Group
:
If you would like to take some time out of your week to get centered and relax, this is the group for you. This is a drop-in group that meets weekly, Wednesdays from 12:15 pm - 1 pm at the Student Recreation Center. The class is free to all and consists of light stretching, deep breathing, and various relaxation and meditation exercises. No pre-sign up is required for this group, simply drop in to the SRC and enjoy.

Graduate Women’s Group: focuses on issues and concerns often facing women; relationship choices, interpersonal communication and interactions, sense of self and self-identity, what it means to be in graduate school and other life choices.

Dissertation Support Group: a forum for graduate students to talk about the stresses of preparing for graduate exams and writing a dissertation.

Young Women’s Group

Do you need a safe place for self exploration and personal growth? You are not alone. As a young woman in college you face a multitude of stressors and life ups and downs. The Young Women’s Group is a safe place to connect with your peers and to receive and give support about various life issues we all face. Some topics of discussion will include navigating family relationships, life transitions, adjustment to UCR, and juggling life’s responsibilities. Come check us out.

First Generation College Student Support Group: Are you the first in your family to attend college? Would you like to join other peers who share the same journey as you? The First Generation College Student Support Group assist students in exploring the special challenges they face and gain support in navigating between the two cultures/worlds. All are welcome to share their stories and experiences.
Healthy Relationships for Young Women

Many young women struggle with interpersonal and romantic relationships. Did you just get out of an unhealthy relationship? Are you struggling to make one work? Do you want help dealing with conflict constructively, balancing an individual identity with a couple identity, and setting healthy boundaries? If any of these scenarios fits you, then this group is for you. Come explore the nuances of your relationships in a safe environment of your peers.


Please complete the Referral to Group form and return it to the counseling center OR call the Counseling Center  at UCR-TALK or 2-TALK to schedule a brief group screening appointment.  Group times and dates will be determined by interest in each group and will vary.
